Happy New Year from the Caswells!
I didn’t get around to writing a real year end letter for 2009, but I wanted to at least share a couple pictures. The first one is of my family as most people see us. The second one is more honest. Happy New Year!

In February of 1995 my mom published an article in the Reader’s Digest called, “Thank You, Mr. Lincoln.” I thought it would be appropriate (although not altogether legal) to share it today. Normally I would just link to readersdigest.com, but apparently they do not maintain any sort of archive of past issues.
For those of you who don’t know, my mom and her family escaped from communist Bulgaria when she was 16 years old. She has written a book about it, but is still looking for a publisher. Anyway, here is the PDF to the Reader’s Digest article. Enjoy it before someone makes me take it down. Happy 200th Birthday, Mr. Lincoln.
I had a beard for the last two weeks, but it got really itchy. So here are some photos and some manly beard quotes. If you are thinking of growing one, go for it. But realize that having a beard takes as much work as not having one (you have to trim it, etc). Unless you are going for a total mountain man look.
Beard quotes from Wikipedia:

I just returned from a nice family trip in Southern California. There is definitely a difference between vacations and family trips. A true vacation, as in a rest or a break, would probably not involve kids. I enjoyed reading Justin’s take on The Happiest Place On Earth. It was fun spending time in the sun with Justin and Marion and Dave and their families. We played at the beach/pool and spent a few days at the Disneyland. Legoland was fun too. This time the kids had earned their own money, although somehow it all still came out of my bank account. Anyway, enjoy the photos…

I think I have been a really good sport. Two weddings in two months! Luckily all of my brothers and sisters are married now, so I am hoping to not have to attend any more weddings for a while. I’ll defer to Justin’s rant on weddings so I don’t have to write one.
