About Tom
Bio
Tom Caswell is Director of Instructional Design at Western Governors University. He is passionate about increasing access to education. Prior to working for WGU Tom was Open Education Policy Associate at the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC), leading the Open Course Library. He has also consulted for groups such as Creative Commons, the Open CourseWare Consortium, and the Open University of Catalonia. From 2005 to 2008 he developed OpenCourseWare projects with David Wiley at the Center for Open and Sustainable Learning (COSL). Tom also taught French and Computer Science for 7 years.
Tom holds an Ed.S. in Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences from Utah State University. In 2009 he helped found TwHistory.org, a project to create and share online historical reenactments using Twitter. TwHistory continues to grow, and has received support from the Talis Incubator for Open Education.
Tom is married to Camille Caswell, a musician and vocalist. They have 3 children. In his spare time Tom enjoys cycling, guitar, photography, and spending time with his family.
