Tom Caswell is Director of Learning Engineering at Learning Objects andhas over 15 years of experience in instructional design and learning sciences. He has developed personalized and competency-based courses and programs at a variety of higher education institutions and organizations, including Helix Education, Western Governors University, and the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges.
Tom holds an Ed.S. in Instructional Technology & Learning Sciences from Utah State University and a Masters in Educational Technology from Cal State University. He has been featured in EDUCAUSE’s Game Changers for his work on the Open Course Library of the Washington State Colleges. Tom also taught High School French and Computer Science for 7 years in Utah and California.

In 2009 Tom founded Dynamic E-Learning Strategies, Inc. to offer consulting around curriculum development, instructional technology, and open content. Past clients include MIT, the Open CourseWare Consortium, Creative Commons, FL Distance Learning Consortium, Blackboard, and the Open University of Catalonia. These days Tom is most interested in competency-based education, OER, and personalized learning. One of Tom’s favorite projects was TwHistory.org, a space to create and share online historical reenactments using Twitter. TwHistory has received support from the Utah Education Network (UEN) and the Talis Incubator for Open Education.
